Karen, CEO of Inclusion North, exemplifies inclusive leadership by championing diversity, integrity, and respect. She has secured funding for lived-experience groups addressing health inequalities and preventable deaths among people with learning disabilities, autistic individuals, and those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds. Karen spearheaded Race Equality Week, encouraging staff to participate in challenges and pledges. Her work includes developing accessible materials for elections and climate change training, alongside securing funding for a course that empowers people with learning disabilities and autistic individuals to become community leaders. Under her leadership, 48% of staff and volunteers at Inclusion North identify as disabled or having long-term health conditions. Karen has introduced a Menopause Policy, ensured accessible communications, and promoted inclusive recruitment practices. These efforts have earned Inclusion North recognition as a ‘Disability Confident Employer’ and a ‘Learning Disability Inclusive Employer’.
