Inclusive Culture Initiative
Hi, I'm Vicky, an award-winning illustrator, storyteller and environmental scientist with a PhD in meadow ecology and a passion for making complex ideas accessible. I founded Inklusive Nature because I am drawn to change: helping researchers, community organisations and changemakers connect people and planet through compelling visual stories.
My mission is simple: to help create a world where science and nature belong to everyone.
Much of the information that shapes our lives is locked behind barriers. Academic papers, policy documents, consultation reports and technical language can exclude the very people they are intended to serve. Through visual storytelling, illustration, comics, SketchNotes and participatory creative methods, I transform complex information into engaging, accessible resources that invite people in rather than shutting them out.
My work ranges from visually translating research and policy for wider audiences to creating illustrated summaries of community conversations, workshops and co-design processes. These visual outputs help participants see their experiences, knowledge and contributions reflected back to them. They create opportunities for people to feel seen, heard and valued while strengthening understanding and connection across diverse groups.
My commitment to inclusion is deeply personal. Growing up with unrecognised autism and dyslexia, I experienced first-hand how traditional approaches to communication and education can unintentionally exclude people. I loved learning but often found myself struggling against systems built around dense text and conventional ways of processing information.
Over time, as I better understood my neurodivergent identity and learned how to advocate for my needs, education became more accessible. Through the Open University I gained a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences and later completed a PhD in meadow ecology. Those experiences showed me both the transformative power of learning and the barriers that prevent many people from accessing it.
Today, I bring together lived experience, scientific expertise and more than 20 years of professional experience across local government, academia and the third sector. My background spans both natural and social science research, public engagement, community development and inclusive communication.
Through Inklusive Nature, I work to ensure that important conversations about science, nature, sustainability and society are accessible to wider audiences. By combining evidence, creativity and participation, I help create spaces where different voices, experiences and ways of knowing can be recognised and valued.
Whether I am creating visual summaries of research, facilitating creative workshops, supporting community-led projects or helping organisations communicate more inclusively, my goal remains the same: to make knowledge more accessible, strengthen connections between people, and ensure that more people can participate in shaping the future. One doodle at a time.
