Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) UK is Amazon’s flagship childhood-to-career education program, designed to inspire, educate, and prepare students from underserved and underrepresented communities to pursue careers of the future. Launched in the UK in 2019, AFE UK addresses the systemic barriers that prevent young people, particularly those from lower-income backgrounds and young women, from accessing high-quality future skills-oriented education.
Our program operates across the full educational journey: from primary school coding workshops and interactive virtual career tours, through secondary AI Education curriculum support and teacher training, to university bursaries and mentoring for young women pursuing STEM degrees. We partner with leading UK organizations including Teach First, STEM Learning, Digit, Springpod and Education & Employers to deliver impact at scale. In 2022, Amazon Future Engineer won at the Business Charity Awards for its Teach First partnership, recruiting and training computing teachers in schools serving disadvantaged communities.
A cornerstone of our program is “Careers of the Future”, a suite of free, on-demand virtual career tours that take students behind the scenes at Amazon to discover how computer science, robotics, and engineering come together in the real world. Available to every school in the UK at no cost, these interactive experiences show students how hardware engineers, software development engineers, systems engineers and other future-oriented job profiles work together in Amazon’s Fulfilment Centers, Data Centers, MGM & Music Studios and beyond. Through short videos featuring real Amazon professionals doing their jobs, interactive quizzes, and hands-on activities, students explore career pathways they may never have known existed. The tours cover STEM topics including algorithms, databases, robotics, sensors, cloud computing, and machine learning as well as AI presented in real-life context. Designed for secondary (Grades 6+) students, each 45-minute tour is completely free and accessible on-demand, removing barriers of cost, geography, and scheduling that often prevent underserved schools from accessing career inspiration. In the first half of 2026 alone, these tours reached more than 80,000 students in the UK.
Complementing the virtual tours, our Class Chats program – in partnership with Inspiring the Future – brings Amazon volunteers into classrooms to share their career journeys, demystifying technology careers for students who may never have met someone working in tech. In 2026, we launched “AI in Action at Amazon”, a new campaign with Inspiring the Future delivering live virtual and in-person events where Amazon employees show students how AI is used across roles and industries, from Alexa and AWS to Amazon Music and Retail, helping them understand how AI is shaping the world of work.
Through our partnership with Teach First, we have supported a new AI Teaching Toolkit that helps train new teachers in schools serving some of the most disadvantaged communities in the country. The toolkit is already supporting thousands of teachers and leaders to use AI safely and thoughtfully in everyday teaching, helping almost one million pupils become ‘AI ready’, bringing vital digital knowledge to the communities that need it most. We also fund AI teacher training through STEM Learning, the UK’s largest provider of STEM education support.
We believe that talent and passion are spread equally across all young people, but opportunity is not. Amazon Future Engineer UK exists to close that gap—using technology, partnerships, and Amazon’s scale to ensure every young person, regardless of background, can build their best future.
