My Name is Dr Carlton Brown, and I am a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategist, author, researcher, speaker, consultant, and thought leader who has dedicated a large part of my career to advancing racial equity, inclusive leadership, and organisational transformation. Since 2017, I have championed diversity through research, writing, executive coaching and consultancy, helping organisations across the public, private and third sectors move beyond compliance towards meaningful and measurable inclusion. My work combines academic research with practical business application, enabling leaders to understand that diversity and inclusion are not simply social responsibilities but strategic drivers of innovation, organisational performance and sustainable growth. I have been recognised for developing evidence-based solutions that challenge conventional thinking while equipping organisations with practical frameworks for lasting change.
i am a passionate advocate of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and supplier diversity, I have worked extensively to promote inclusive procurement and equitable access to opportunities for underrepresented businesses. I have consistently demonstrated that supplier diversity strengthens innovation, resilience and economic growth while creating value for organisations and communities alike.
I am the author of the Black Entrepreneur Report, first published in 2021 and expanded in 2026. The reports examine the opportunities and structural barriers facing Black entrepreneurs across the UK, providing evidence-based recommendations that have informed business leaders, policymakers and enterprise support organisations. His research continues to influence conversations around entrepreneurship, access to finance, procurement and inclusive economic development. As Convener of the UK Black Business Entrepreneur Conference, I have created a national platform bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, academics and corporate leaders to explore enterprise, innovation and economic inclusion. I have also established numerous diversity roundtables that encourage collaboration between the public, private and voluntary sectors, creating opportunities for honest dialogue, shared learning and collective action on racial equity.
I serve on the Board of the National Windrush Museum, supporting its mission to preserve and celebrate the contribution of the Windrush Generation. I have also written extensively about the legacy and contribution of the Windrush Generation, highlighting their impact on British society while advocating for greater recognition of their history and achievements. I am an author and thought leader and have written widely on race, leadership, organisational culture and inclusive business. My latest book, The Race Paradox: Why Organisations Fail on Race, challenges traditional approaches to diversity by examining why many organisations continue to experience racial inequality despite significant investment in DEI initiatives. I have developed the Race Paradox™ Framework, an original leadership and organisational development model that helps organisations understand the contradictions that unintentionally sustain inequality. The framework provides leaders with practical tools to embed accountability, cultural change and measurable outcomes, moving organisations from intention to impact.
Alongside my research, I have designed executive leadership programmes, workshops and organisational diagnostics that support boards, senior leaders and managers in developing more inclusive cultures. My facilitation style combines challenge with empathy, encouraging courageous conversations while helping organisations build stronger, more equitable workplaces.
Mentoring and coaching are central to my work. Over many years, I have supported executives, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders in developing inclusive leadership capabilities, increasing cultural intelligence and building the confidence to lead organisational change. My coaching is underpinned by a strong business case for diversity, demonstrating how inclusive organisations consistently achieve higher levels of innovation, engagement, performance and long-term success.
I am a regular keynote speaker, conference panellist and commentator. My work is widely recognised for bringing together academic insight, commercial understanding and practical experience. My work reflects the qualities associated with leading diversity and inclusion practitioners: innovation, measurable impact, collaboration, thought leadership and a sustained commitment to systemic change.
Through my research, writing, consultancy and public engagement, i hope to continue to influence organisations and leaders across the UK. My mission remains clear: to create fairer, more inclusive organisations where racial equity is embedded within leadership, strategy and culture, enabling individuals, businesses and communities to thrive
