Catrin joined the Community Investment Team at Bute Energy as their education lead in 2023. She was drawn to Bute Energy because the company’s core principles—passion, integrity, courage, and community—resonate deeply with her own values. These principles reflect her approach throughout a 28-year career as a secondary school Welsh language and Literature teacher.
Catrin has always believed that education should encompass more than just passing exams and obtaining qualifications. Over time, she became increasingly aware that traditional academic pathways did not meet the needs of many young people, often leaving them disillusioned with the learning process. This realisation was further reinforced when her son was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism.
Determined to support these young individuals, Catrin dedicated herself to showing them that success can be measured in various ways and that everyone has valuable contributions to make. Within her school, she took on responsibilities that allowed her to ensure fair opportunities for all community members and aimed at building resilience, confidence, and a sense of value among students.
Joining Bute Energy’s Community Investment team has given Catrin the opportunity to support children and young people in new ways. She now helps prepare them for the future by introducing them to the world of work and opening their eyes to the possibilities within the growing Green Skills workforce. This work has already been recognised through a Best Newcomer Nomination by Careers Wales in 2023. In her role at Bute Energy, Catrin continues her commitment to education and community, contributing to sustainable development while empowering the next generation.
Catrin feels privileged to be nominated for the Social Mobility Project award at the Inclusive Awards 2024.
