Coding Black Females is a non-profit organisation and the largest community of Black women software developers, engineers, and tech professionals in the UK. Founded in 2017 by Charlene Hunter MBE. Our mission is to grow the community of black women in software development and technical roles, from entry level to executive level. We remove barriers to enter the industry and progress within roles. What started as local meet-ups has evolved globally to over 20,000 members, offering regular events, technical workshops, mentoring and bootcamps that provide a safe space where Black women do not have to compromise their identity to thrive in technical careers.
When CBF was founded, Black women made up less than 1% of the UK tech workforce and high-cost bootcamps and rigid hiring processes make transitioning into tech difficult for many career-changing Black women. Through our free, intensive software engineering bootcamps and programs, peer-to-peer mentoring and networking. We have successfully transitioned over 2,000 women into tech roles from non-traditional pathways.
