Established six years ago, the Cultural Diversity Locality Leads network is made up of 13 dedicated colleagues who share a passion for equity, diversity and inclusion. Alongside their substantive roles, they volunteer their time, energy and expertise to support colleagues, champion cultural diversity and help create a workplace where everyone feels they belong.
The role can be challenging and emotionally demanding at times. Locality Leads often support colleagues during difficult experiences, including those who may feel disadvantaged, isolated or affected by discrimination. They listen, advocate and work to ensure people’s voices are heard, providing reassurance and support when it is needed most.
Despite these challenges, the work is incredibly rewarding. Seeing colleagues grow in confidence, feel more connected and know they have a safe and supportive space to turn to makes a meaningful difference. Whether welcoming internationally educated staff, supporting awareness events, promoting allyship or helping colleagues navigate difficult situations, the impact of the network is felt across the organisation.
For the 13 Locality Leads, the role is more than a voluntary responsibility—it’s a commitment to making a positive difference. Through dedication, compassion and collaboration, they continue to help build an inclusive culture where diversity is celebrated, barriers are challenged and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Examples of what we have achieved include awareness stands for awareness months within the EDI calendar, helping to shape policies such as interview panels to ensure for inclusive recruitment and to reduce bias during this process, co-production with the board around anti-racism strategy, improving staff survey outcomes for culturally diverse staff and as a trust a championing by board and have inclusivity pledge made from the top of the organisation and filtering this down
