We are Film Locos—a movement, not just a production company. The name says it all: we’re loco for film, and bold enough to challenge an industry that has historically sidelined our voices. Built from the ground up by British Latinx creatives and allies from the Global Majority, Film Locos was born out of necessity—out of frustration with the lack of meaningful diversity and inclusion in UK film and TV.

From day one, we’ve faced being overlooked, underestimated, and told to “wait our turn.” But we never waited—we created our own path. We built our own table and opened the door wide for everyone who felt left out of the conversation. What started as grassroots has grown into a movement of hundreds of creatives across the UK and beyond.

A major turning point came when we produced 6 short films in just 6 days. Originally meant as a small YouTube exercise, it became a milestone project that brought together over 100 writers, directors, crew, and performers from British Latinx, Afro-Caribbean, South Asian, East Asian, and mixed heritage backgrounds. The films tackled bold, inclusive themes—from LGBTQ+ identity to generational divides—and were not just Latino-centred, but a rich blend of perspectives. We toured these films across the UK, hosting community screenings that sparked important conversations and built lasting creative networks.

Since then, we’ve gone on to produce over 20 short films, and our impact continues to grow. Our recent short Beto & Nena, a powerful intergenerational drama, drew over 150 people to a sold-out screening. The project didn’t just move audiences—it proved the demand for our stories. Another standout film, El Bananero, was invited to participate in Sapcine Lab in Cali, Colombia—a major international recognition that opened the door to cross-border collaborations with companies in Latin America and Spain.

Our ambition isn’t limited to London. We’ve expanded our reach, producing short films in Ireland and Oxford, forging partnerships with regional filmmakers and bringing Film Locos’ vision to new communities. We believe in decentralising access to the industry—talent is everywhere, and we’re working to meet it where it lives.

In October 2024, our work was further validated when we were selected for the Reel Impact initiative by the Film and TV Charity. With their incredible support, we’ve launched a new chapter of growth. We’re now running masterclasses, workshops, and networking events designed to empower the next generation of filmmakers from marginalised backgrounds. These aren’t just educational spaces—they’re access points into a notoriously closed-off industry. Our sessions demystify the production process, foster collaboration, and spark mentorship opportunities. Dozens of new filmmakers have already benefited—gaining the confidence, knowledge, and real-world connections needed to launch their careers.

We are proud to be building an inclusive creative hub where Global Majority talent can thrive, where British Latinx voices are finally heard, and where diverse perspectives aren’t tokenised, but celebrated. At Film Locos, diversity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the foundation of everything we do. Our stories reflect the complex, multicultural reality of the UK today—from the intersections of race and sexuality to the experiences of the elderly, the youth, and those often made invisible.

We’re proving that diversity creates better storytelling, stronger communities, and a healthier industry. Many of our collaborators have gone on to work with major platforms like Netflix, Amazon, Channel 4, and more. But our greatest achievement isn’t just the doors we’ve opened—it’s the movement we’ve built, and the future we’re shaping together.

Film Locos is not just a production company—it’s a home. It’s a loud, creative, rebellious, supportive, inclusive family that believes in the impossible. We’re here to stay, and we’re just getting started.

Vote for Film Locos—because when we win, our whole community wins. Because representation matters. Because stories change lives. And because sometimes, it takes a little bit of loco to change the world.
