I am the Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Aid Luton, a specialist charity supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse. As a qualified Social Worker with over 30 years’ experience across health, social care and the voluntary sector, I have dedicated my career to improving the lives of individuals experiencing adversity, inequality and trauma. My experience spans frontline practice, service development, commissioning, strategic leadership and the management of complex health and social care portfolios.

Since joining Women’s Aid Luton in 2022, I have led a period of significant organisational growth and transformation. Working alongside an exceptional team, trustees, volunteers and partners, I have focused on strengthening services, improving quality and sustainability, and ensuring that women and children experiencing domestic abuse have access to safe accommodation, specialist support and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Women’s Aid Luton supports women from a wide range of cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds, reflecting the rich diversity of the communities we serve.

My leadership is underpinned by feminist principles and a commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice. I firmly believe that effective leadership requires creating environments where people feel valued, respected and empowered to contribute. As the majority of both our beneficiaries and workforce come from diverse backgrounds, I am passionate about ensuring that lived experience, cultural understanding and inclusive practice sit at the heart of organisational decision-making. I strive to foster a workplace culture where diverse voices are heard, barriers are challenged and people are supported to reach their full potential.

Throughout my career, I have championed trauma-informed, survivor-centred approaches and have worked to challenge the structural inequalities that can prevent women from accessing safety, support and opportunity. I believe that inclusion is not simply about representation; it is about actively creating the conditions in which people can thrive and influence change. I am particularly proud of leading an organisation that continues to innovate and respond to the changing needs of women and children affected by domestic abuse, while remaining rooted in its feminist values and mission. Recognition through this nomination is especially meaningful because it reflects not only my own journey but also the collective efforts of the staff, volunteers, trustees and survivors whose strength, resilience and determination inspire me every day.

As a leader, my ambition is to continue building inclusive, high-performing organisations that create lasting social impact, empower diverse communities and ensure that every woman and child has the opportunity to live free from abuse and violence.
