As Head of DEI, CSR, and Wellbeing at the Music Publishers Association (MPA), I see myself as a visionary leader who not only advances organisational priorities but also touches countless lives across the music publishing sector and beyond. My journey has been defined by overcoming personal and professional barriers, transforming adversity into advocacy, and infusing every initiative with purpose and authenticity. I find my work inspiring and impactful, and I am committed to shaping a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable music industry. My career began in Law. I have worked globally across sectors including finance, higher education, local government, and the creative industries. Early on, I discovered a profound passion for equity and inclusion, driven by my lived experiences as a woman from a multi-heritage background navigating traditionally male dominated environments. These formative years exposed me to systemic barriers faced by marginalised groups and instilled in me a deep commitment to social justice. Over the years, I built expertise in managing complex people issues, change management, policy development, and stakeholder engagement, skills that have proven invaluable in my leadership roles. In 2021, I joined the Music Publishers Association (MPA), the leading trade association representing the interests of music publishers in the UK. Recognising the pressing need to embed DEI, CSR, and wellbeing into the DNA of the music publishing sector, I stepped into a dedicated leadership role with a clear vision and purpose. My goal was to elevate the MPA’s influence as an industry leader in social responsibility and inclusion. One of my first tasks was to develop a comprehensive DEI strategy for the MPA and its members. I led an extensive review of policies, practices, and culture, engaging members at all levels to identify gaps and opportunities. A major hallmark of my leadership has been developing 10 employee networks across the MPA’s member organisations. Recognising that meaningful change often comes from peer support and grassroots advocacy, Feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have shared how these networks have transformed their sense of belonging and given them the confidence to advocate for themselves and others. One of my flagship achievements is the NXT Gen Scholars Programme, which I launched to nurture the next generation of music publishing professionals from diverse backgrounds. Created in 2021/2022, I designed the programme to provide, in person and virtual training sessions on publishing, copyright, licensing, and business skills, mentoring opportunities with industry leaders, networking events to help participants build vital connections, and ensuring accessibility and inclusion. Under my guidance, NXT Gen has flourished, successfully equipping people, many of whom might otherwise face barriers to entry with the knowledge, confidence, and networks needed for careers in the music industry. I am proud that the programme is regarded as a model of industry talent development and social mobility. All my Scholars are either in full paid employment, work placements or internships. The M3 guidance, I developed has been widely shared and praised, positioning the MPA as a leader in workplace wellbeing. My professional achievements are deeply intertwined with my personal journey. I have openly shared my experiences navigating health challenges including endometriosis and adenomyosis which have profoundly affected my life and career. I have also recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and am learning to adapt to a new way of life. Rather than allowing these challenges to limit me, I have transformed them into powerful advocacy. I speak candidly about the impact of chronic pain, fatigue, and hormonal changes on work performance and mental health. My vulnerability has inspired others to come forward and seek support, helping to break down stigma around hidden health conditions. I believe that my authenticity makes me a trusted leader and role model across the industry. I have forged strong partnerships both within and beyond the music industry. I collaborate closely many organisations and advocacy groups in the health, disability, and social justice sectors, through these alliances and pledges, I amplify the impact of my work and ensure that the MPA’s initiatives align with wider industry efforts. I believe that the music publishing sector must lead the way in building an industry where talent from every background thrives. I am a changemaker who has created tangible, systemic change across an entire industry by addressing issues long considered taboo or overlooked. I have not only elevated the MPA’s reputation as an inclusive organisation but have also set a standard for the entire music publishing industry to follow. I am a champion for DEI, CSR and wellbeing, a reformer who knows how it feels to be different and who doesn’t let obstacles get in her way.
