This woman lets nothing stop her. Helen grew up in a council estate, in a home with an abusive mother, they were poor but at such a young age it wasn’t something
she understood. Age 11yrs , a man tried to rape her, at 18yrs she was sexually assaulted on a train, this man was caught and sent to prison. Despite all of this, Helen excelled at volleyball & was honoured to play for England. This all made her want to become a police officer. Helen joined the police in 2003 and quickly realised it wasn’t the job she expected. Though she loved the role of helping people, Helen found it difficult when she witnessed colleagues abusing their power and reported them, this in turn made Helen a victim of the abusive system that is the police force, During this time Helen was in an abusive marriage and found the courage to divorce in 2015. Helen also sought legal advice and sued the police force for Harassment, sex discrimination, disability discrimination and bullying. Then in 2010 she was assaulted on duty, where she was struck in the head and face multiple times. Sadly, the trauma sustained from the head injury left Helen with chronic head and face pain that she lives with daily and led to a range of debilitating conditions. At one point the situation was too much Helen almost committed suicide. She was later granted Ill health retirement and retired on Christmas Eve 2016. However, with no income and being forced out of the family home, Helen and her 3 yr old daughter were living in poverty and used a food bank to survive. Helen met and married again.
Then in 2022 sadly she lost her baby boy Gabriel during pregnancy weeks before her wedding day.
Despite these challenges, Helen has continued to strive for self-improvement – returning to higher education, earning a degree and masters, and becoming a three times amazon best-selling author. Helen wants to show her 3 daughters that no matter what challenges come your way, we can overcome them and live a happy life making a positive impact in helping others. After years of research, in 2021, Helen founded the amazing company Adaptive clothing UK, designing and manufacturing sensory and adaptive clothing for babies and children with physical limitations and disabilities. Being disabled herself, Helen understands the need for adaptive clothing, however, her autistic 12 yr old niece inspired Helen to start with a children’s range as there is less out there for children. Helen has also partnered with a UK charity that helps disabled children and a percentage of profit goes to them, as well as a charity in Kenya, where people can return any used items of the range and Helen then forwards them for free to Kenya for children living with cerebral Palsy.
Everything Helen does is to benefit others, she selflessly launched her business during the loss of her baby because she knew this range was needed.
The ideas Helen has for her range are going to change lives for the better.
This aswell as working for a charity as a domestic Abuse Psychoeducation Facilitator enabling families with the tools for better relationships.
