McDermott International is a global leader in engineering and construction for the energy industry, with a proud legacy of delivering complex projects safely, efficiently, and sustainably. In the UK, we are not only building infrastructure—we are building a culture where every individual feels they belong.
Over the past year, we have undertaken a bold and intentional transformation to embed Inclusion and Belonging into every layer of our organisation. This journey began with listening—truly listening—to our people. Through employee feedback, focus groups, and leadership engagement, we identified areas where we could do better: from representation and psychological safety to awareness and allyship.
We recognised that inclusion is not a destination but a continuous process. With that mindset, we launched a series of initiatives designed to create lasting cultural change. These efforts were not driven by compliance or box-ticking, but by a genuine belief that diverse teams perform better, innovate more, and create stronger communities.
Our achievements include:
Launching targeted campaigns around key themes such as neurodiversity, mental health, and inclusive leadership.
Empowering our people managers with the tools and training to lead inclusively and support diverse teams.
Creating safe spaces for dialogue, storytelling, and learning—where employees can bring their whole selves to work.
This journey has not been without its challenges. Like many organisations, we’ve had to confront uncomfortable truths, challenge long-standing norms, and navigate change during a time of global uncertainty. But through it all, we’ve remained committed to progress.
Today, we are proud of the culture we are cultivating—one where inclusion is not just a value, but a lived experience. And while we know there is still work to do, we are confident that we are building a stronger, more resilient McDermott—one where everyone belongs.
