The Power of All Voices was created by the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team at RWE Supply & Trading in response to a clear insight from our employees: not everyone experiences meetings and group discussions as spaces where their voice is equally heard.
RWE Supply & Trading is the trading arm of the RWE Group and is headquartered in Essen, Germany. With around 2,200 employees across international locations including London, Swindon, Singapore and the United States, RWEST brings together colleagues from more than 80 nationalities. Our business includes a fast-moving trading floor as well as highly specialised teams across trading, risk management, analytics, data science, IT and corporate functions.
In this environment, strong decisions depend on the ability to hear different perspectives, challenge assumptions and include both fast, vocal contributors and more reflective voices. Through our internal listening, we recognised that some colleagues found it harder to contribute in group settings, particularly where discussions were fast-moving, dominated by confident speakers or shaped by hierarchy. This showed us that inclusive culture is not only built through policies or representation, but through everyday moments of collaboration.
At its heart, The Power of All Voices encourages colleagues and leaders to reflect on their own individual ways of working, communication preferences and meeting behaviours, while also becoming more aware of the different ways of working of others. It promotes allyship by helping colleagues understand how they can make space for each other, adapt meeting practices and value different forms of contribution.
Importantly, the initiative is not about asking quieter or more reflective colleagues to change who they are in order to fit in. Instead, it is about creating a culture where different styles are accepted, respected and supported. It challenges the idea that confidence, contribution or leadership must look one particular way, and helps teams recognise that inclusion means enabling people to bring their strengths in ways that feel authentic to them.
What we have achieved with The Power of All Voices is a practical and organisation-wide approach to changing everyday moments of collaboration. We have opened up a conversation about personality diversity, communication styles and the value of quieter perspectives. We have equipped colleagues and leaders with tools to make meetings more inclusive, and we have supported employees to contribute with greater confidence.
The initiative has helped move inclusion from an abstract concept into daily behaviour: how people prepare for meetings, invite contributions, manage dominant voices, create thinking time, welcome challenge and capture decisions. For us, this is the heart of inclusive culture — making sure more people can participate, influence and shape the work we do together, without having to become someone they are not.
