I have dedicated more than 20 years of my career to serving communities, championing inclusion, tackling inequality, and creating opportunities for people who are often overlooked and underserved. Throughout my journey, I have been driven by a simple belief: everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background, circumstances, or the barriers they face.

As Co-CEO of WomenZone, a women only space in Bradford, I have worked alongside communities experiencing poverty, health inequalities, discrimination, social isolation, and limited access to opportunities. My work has focused on empowering individuals and families to build confidence, develop skills, improve wellbeing, and realise their potential.

My passion for inclusion stems from witnessing the challenges faced by women, young people, carers, people with disabilities, and communities from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Rather than seeing these challenges as barriers, I have always sought to work collaboratively with communities to identify strengths, build resilience, and create lasting change.

Over the years, I have led the development and growth of a wide range of programmes that support physical health, mental wellbeing, education, employability, youth development, community cohesion, and social connection. These initiatives have reached thousands of people, helping individuals gain qualifications, access employment, improve their health, reduce loneliness, and feel more connected to their communities.
A particular focus of my work has been supporting women from underrepresented and marginalised communities. I am passionate about creating safe, welcoming, and culturally responsive spaces where women can gain confidence, find support networks, improve their wellbeing, and become active leaders within their communities. Through WomenZone, we have developed innovative programmes that address health inequalities, promote physical activity, provide peer support, and strengthen community connections.

I have also been a strong advocate for young people, particularly those facing racial inequality and social disadvantage. Through mentoring, leadership programmes, employability initiatives, arts and cultural activities, and community engagement projects, I have worked to raise aspirations and help young people recognise their strengths and potential.

In addition to frontline community development, I have successfully secured and managed significant funding from national, regional, and local funders, enabling vital services to be delivered and sustained. I have built strong partnerships across the voluntary, public, and private sectors, recognising that meaningful change happens when organisations work together towards a shared purpose.

My leadership approach is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and authenticity. I believe inclusive cultures are created when people feel heard, valued, respected, and able to contribute. Whether working with community members, staff, volunteers, trustees, or partners, I strive to create environments where everyone’s voice matters and diversity is celebrated as a strength.

One of my proudest achievements has been helping to grow WomenZone into a trusted community organisation that supports women and families from diverse backgrounds while remaining firmly rooted in community led values. Seeing people gain confidence, improve their wellbeing, secure employment, reconnect with their communities, or become leaders in their own right is what continues to inspire me every day.

Throughout my career, I have remained committed to challenging inequality, promoting fairness, and ensuring that people who are often excluded have opportunities to participate, influence decisions, and achieve their ambitions. Being nominated for the Inclusive Culture Initiative Award is a tremendous honour and reflects not only my personal commitment to inclusion but also the collective efforts of the communities, colleagues, volunteers, and partners I have had the privilege to work alongside.

I remain passionate about creating a more inclusive society where everyone feels they belong, can contribute, and can succeed.
