We are TfL’s award-winning Women’s Colleague Network Group (WCNG) and we exist to support women. We are an empowering community designed to connect and promote women in our organisation and beyond. The group strives to create a more equitable workplace by supporting women’s health needs at work, networking, knowledge sharing and creating opportunity for growth through all career stages. Through regular events and activities we share knowledge and experiences, celebrate achievements and address challenges unique to women in the workplace. We advocate for diversity and inclusion and work to create a culture that is inclusive and supportive for all. We welcome all colleagues regardless of gender.
The network is the largest in TFL, membership has doubled in the last 18 months to a record high of 3,500, far exceeding the modest target of a 10% increase in membership.
The group further supports six sub-groups, each with its own purpose, objectives and membership, there are hubs for Menopause and Menstrual Health, groups for Women in Tech and Women in Engineering, a Career Changers group, and a group named Xnicity – an intersectional group of ethnically diverse women.
Our Women’s Network is tackling 3 key challenges; retention, progression of women into senior roles and representation in transport and engineering by reshaping perceptions and creating opportunities. We have targeted areas with known issues such as Women in Control Centres and Women in Engineering by focused workshops and celebrations on these areas.
The group has grown significantly, with achievements including the 2024 TfL Diversity & Inclusion Award for its Menopause Hub supporting women through menopause. The group is recognised as world-class and contributed to a Menopause White Paper with Women in Transport, due for release in Autumn 2025.
Our Women’s Network champions three core priorities shaped by our members: Women’s Health, Career Progression & Development, and Outreach – creating a collaborative and inclusive environment across our organisation and beyond.
Over the past two years, we’ve delivered a diverse programme of events and initiatives, including a Women’s Health Fair with 200+ attendees and 18 exhibitors, a powerful Allyship Series, a highly successful Imposter Syndrome Programme – where participants reported a remarkable 42% increase in personal and professional confidence, alongside a 29% uplift in colleague engagement, many workshops focus on personal development including burnout, resilience, self-promotion, visibility, CV writing, interview skills, financial management, coding and many more.
Collaboration across TfL’s network groups has driven some of our most impactful events. Over the past two years, we’ve partnered with the LGBTQ+ network to celebrate and raise awareness for Lesbian Visibility Week. In June 2025, the network marked its 20th anniversary with a series of events, including the first-ever pan-CNG in-person gathering – an inspiring, intersectional experience held aboard TfL’s iconic Cable Car. The event featured targeted coaching and awareness sessions on health, equity, careers, and more, all set against the stunning backdrop of London’s skyline.
Our commitment to meaningful partnerships extends beyond TfL. We’ve delivered a number of menopause awareness sessions in collaboration with the NHS, giving colleagues direct, live access to specialist medical expertise. During Menopause Awareness Month 2024, we hosted Carolyn Harris MP, Chair of the Menopause All-Party Parliamentary Group, for a powerful session on menopause in the workplace – bringing national advocacy into our organisation and reinforcing our dedication to inclusive health and wellbeing.
Our network is deeply committed to driving impact through charitable partnerships. We’ve raised funds for charities, supported organisations helping women re-enter the workforce, and spotlighted vital causes at our first-ever Women’s Health Fair in 2025. The event brought together a range of charities, offering resources, support, and expert guidance to colleagues – reinforcing our dedication to TfL colleague wellbeing.
As an accredited White Ribbon organisation, TfL is committed to ending violence against women and girls, the WCNG is a proud and active supporter of this mission. The group has played a key role in launching TfL’s Domestic Abuse Policy and Sexual Harassment at Work Guidance, helping embed a culture of safety and respect. In early 2025, we led a targeted initiative in a TfL department to improve women’s workplace safety – resulting in a clear action plan and boosting confidence in the organisation’s ability to address these issues.
We mentor, connect, learn, and grow together. We’ve built a vibrant, supportive community that empowers not only our members but colleagues across TfL. Our work makes a lasting difference – personally and professionally – enriching lives and shaping a more inclusive future.
