CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR AWARD


Shirine Khoury-Haq became Chief Executive of the Co-op in 2022, the first woman and first person of colour to hold the role. She first joined the Executive in 2019 as CFO, bringing a career spanning senior roles at IBM, McDonald’s, Catlin Group, and Lloyd’s of London, where she served as COO. Born to a Turkish mother and Palestinian father, Shirine grew up across every continent except Antarctica, shaping her belief that diversity is a strength. Her lived experience as a woman, mother, and leader drives her mission to embed equity, inclusion, and aspiration at the heart of the Co-op’s culture for 54,000 colleagues and 6.5 million members. Under her leadership, Co-op has strengthened support for colleagues through disability inclusion, parental leave, fertility and menopause support, and LGBTQ+ equity, ensuring the Co-op delivers not just commercial success but also representation, fairness, and meaningful social impact.
