DIVERSITY TEAMS AWARD


The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Team at Westminster City Council, established in 2020 and led by a Head of EDI since 2021, has been a catalyst for organisational change. With just 4.5 dedicated staff, the team has transformed culture by embedding equity into recruitment, leadership, and everyday practice. Through close collaboration with staff networks, EDI Champions, partnerships with EDI Membership organisations, the team leverages data-driven insights and lived experience co-creating impactful action plans on race, disability, and gender. Initiatives such as inclusive recruitment panels, mentoring pilots, and the Black on Board programme have increased representation and progression for under-represented staff. They’ve also championed safe spaces, intersectional awareness events, and toolkits supporting inclusive leadership. Today, 75% of staff agree the Council is inclusive, one of the highest scores the Council has had, evidence of the team’s lasting impact.
