Social Mobility Project Award
Bupa’s partnership with Salford City Council is transforming access to meaningful employment for local residents who have faced long‑term barriers to work. Led by Lucy Johnson, whose leadership is rooted in empathy, coaching and a deep commitment to social mobility, the project has opened corporate doors to people who may never have considered roles in organisations like Bupa. Through an inclusive Discovery Day and a co‑designed two‑week pre‑employment programme delivered at Bupa Place, participants gained confidence, practical skills and Level 1 qualifications, with eleven individuals securing permanent roles after long periods of unemployment. Built on collaboration, lived experience and a belief in removing barriers, this partnership is creating life‑changing opportunities, strengthening community confidence and demonstrating how one leader’s vision can spark lasting social impact across Salford.
