Matt and Lloyd are the dynamic co-chairs of the BBC Pride network, a dedicated staff network designed to support LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies. Their journey, both personal and professional, has been a tapestry of challenges, triumphs, and unwavering dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. As they continue to build upon the groundwork laid by their predecessors, Iain and Anthony, Matt and Lloyd have brought fresh energy and perspective to the BBC Pride network. This narrative delves into their individual backgrounds, their collaborative leadership within the BBC Pride network, and the significant achievements they have realised together.

Upon assuming their roles as co-chairs, Matt and Lloyd were committed to continuing the mission of the BBC Pride network: to support LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies, fostering an environment of networking, safety, and inclusion. They aimed to build upon the strong foundation laid by their predecessors while infusing the network with new energy and ideas. Their shared vision was to create a workplace where all members felt happy, comfortable, and included, facilitating constructive dialogue on issues relevant to the LGBTQ+ community within the company.

One of the cornerstones of Matt and Lloyd’s leadership has been the organisation of regular events for network members. Understanding the importance of creating diverse opportunities for engagement, they ensured that events catered to a wide range of preferences and needs. From lunch clubs and theatre trips to dinners and drinks, the variety of activities reflected their commitment to inclusivity.

Under their leadership, the BBC Pride network’s visibility and participation in larger movements have increased significantly. Matt and Lloyd have championed the network’s involvement in Pride marches across the UK, showcasing the BBC’s support for LGBTQ+ rights. In 2023, they orchestrated the first pan-BBC Pride Day, a landmark event that included cross-site socials, a bake sale, and online panel sessions. This event not only celebrated the LGBTQ+ community but also fostered a sense of unity and shared purpose among members across different locations.

We also understand the importance of fostering intersectional support within the network. By collaborating with other Staff Networks and external organisations, they have addressed a wider range of issues relevant to their members. Their representation on neurodiversity panels organised by the BBC Enigma Network, a network dedicated to championing ND issues, highlights their commitment to inclusivity beyond those of the LGBTQ+ community. Working with external networks like IntermediaUK, where they hold a position on the steering committee, has extended their reach and influence, making the network more attractive to potential members who value comprehensive and intersectional support.

Under their leadership, the BBC Pride network has seen a strengthening of community bonds and communication. Matt and Lloyd’s proactive approach in seeking feedback and new ideas ensures that the network remains responsive to the needs of its members. Utilising platforms like the internal MS Teams Channel to disseminate information about events and initiatives has kept members well-informed and engaged, fostering a strong sense of community.

BBC Pride offers resources for support, advice, and friendship, Matt and Lloyd have helped members navigate personal and professional challenges, contributing to their overall well-being and job satisfaction. The presence of an Executive Sponsor, currently the BBC Secretary, adds a level of executive support and endorsement, further legitimising and strengthening the network’s initiatives.

This year, BBC Pride has significantly focused on strengthening its communications strategy by ensuring all communications across platforms are consistent. Their newsletters have transformed, becoming more interactive and engaging, linking directly to the BBC’s social information platform \\\’Ariel\\\’. This change has increased member engagement and boosted membership by over a third within a few months.

BBC Pride has also concentrated on intersectionality and external engagement. By collaborating with other staff networks such as the Young Talent Network and multicultural network BBC Embrace, they have co-organised events and developed communication strategies. Additionally, they have partnered with LGBTQ+ networks from companies like Kellogg\\\’s, Wagamama, and Booking.com, focusing on community outreach and strengthening connections. Their collaboration with LGBTQ+ networks in ITV, Channel 4, and other networks via IntermediaUK has ensured our members are well-connected within the industry.

As they continue their journey as co-chairs, Matt and Lloyd have set ambitious goals for the future of the BBC Pride network. Their vision includes expanding the network’s reach, enhancing its impact, and continuing to foster an inclusive and supportive environme
