I’ve been working now since I graduated in 2003, and have always considered myself lucky to have found myself working in welcoming and inclusive places where, at least with regards to my sexual orientation, I have not felt the need to hide who I am or pretend to be anything other than my authentic self when talking about my partners or what I did at the weekend. The fundamental driver for my career, whether in a training or line management role, has been to support and encourage others to feel the same, and my recent role as inclusion manager, felt like the perfect way to bring all of that together. I am also aware that whilst I am, as a gay man, from an under-represented group, as a cis, white, man I am still privileged in terms of how I move through the workplace, society, and the world at large, and this has also been a huge drive in terms of how I work, and where I place my focus.
