Provide in depth information on the background and nature of your diversity initiative.
As a business we recognise the importance of creating a culture that is inclusive to all and this drives our ED&I strategy. To further develop our strategy it is vital for us to truly understand the make-up of our colleague population. We don’t want to make assumptions on our demographic and colleague communities. We want to obtain detailed tangible data to evidence our colleague population and the #CountMeIn was an initiative to help us do this.
Every 6 weeks or so, our ED&I Steering Group comes together to discuss initiatives to grow our inclusion strategy, get all colleagues involved, and give them a voice to ensure ED&I remains a priority on our business agenda. As a group, we focus on al areas of ED&I with an aim to reflect the diversity of our colleagues and in turn our customer population.
#CountMeIn was an idea generated from within our ED&I Steering Group as a campaign to encourage all colleagues to submit their diversity data which includes providing information around gender, sexuality, religion, disability, and neurodiversity. The purpose of the campaign is to give us as a business insight into the true make-up of our colleague community so we can better tailor our EDI strategy to ensure true inclusivity across the Group.
The campaign was activated throughout the entire business across our various internal channels including Yammer, the intranet, internal communications bulletins, and display posters. A themed #CountMeIn ‘selfie’ frame was created for each site and colleagues were asked to complete their data profiles within our HR system and then share their photo with the frame with the #CountMeIn tag. Data completion was quick and easy for colleagues , with simple check boxes within their individual HR platform profile.
What impact do you feel your initiative has had on your clients/target audience?
The launch of this initiative has had a positive impact on all colleagues throughout the business. The support of our leadership team to promote the campaign demonstrated the importance of ED&I as part of the wider business strategy.
Our initial target was to obtain 50% completion within a year of launch, however we have already surpassed this and now some 56% of our 2600+ colleagues have completed their data. This extremely positive response clearly shows the power and impact of this initiative. Our colleagues are happy to share their data so we can truly understand the demographic of our teams.
We continue to drive the campaign within the business to all current employees and and have also introduced #CountMeIn campaign activity as part of the onboarding process to ensure we capture key demographic data from the outset to enable us to continue to grow and develop our group wide ED&I strategy.
Provide an overview on how your initiative has impacted diversity and inclusion related issues.
As a Group we are recognised within the wider automotive industry for our continued efforts with ED&I and the positive impact on our Group culture. Recently, members of our ED&I Steering Group were welcomed to present at the Volkswagen UK Group People Forum giving us the opportunity to share details of the success of our #CountMeIn campaign. It’s great to see that the work we are doing influences and impacts other organisations.
Internally the data we have obtained helps us to set our ED&I agenda. Our ED&I Steering Group will analyse the demographic statistics and align these with our various workstreams around, gender, race & ethnicity, sexuality, religion and disability so we can better support our colleagues and enhance our inclusive culture.
With the #CountMeIn campaign continuing at pace, we’re now aiming for 75% completion by year end which will be a fantastic achievement and will go a long way to support inclusivity and drive change throughout the business and our industry.
