Inclusive Culture Initiative
The Pharmacy Department has undergone a significant cultural transformation driven by a sustained commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. In response to widening degree awarding gaps and reduced belonging during the pandemic, the department embedded inclusive practice across curriculum design, staff development and student experience. A spiral inclusivity curriculum, cultural competence training and antiracism workshops have strengthened belonging, improved understanding of health inequalities and increased staff confidence in using inclusive language and designing representative learning materials. Students report greater awareness of cultural bias and improved sense of belonging, with metrics showing a reduced awarding gap. This collective, evidence‑based effort has been recognised nationally with two Chemist & Druggist Diversity and Inclusion Awards and a Gold Green Impact Award, demonstrating how inclusive education creates meaningful, measurable change.
