Head of Diversity & Inclusion Award
Tracy McKim is a passionate leader who has championed equality, diversity and inclusion during more than 40 years in local government. A proud Newportonian, Tracy has helped Newport City Council move its equality work from compliance-led activity to strategic, outcomes-focused action. She led Newport to become the first local authority in Wales to introduce participatory budgeting, empowering residents to shape community investment, with more than £1 million distributed to over 180 community groups. Tracy also established four staff-led networks supporting diversity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, disability and neurodiversity, and the Welsh language, giving employees a stronger voice in decision-making. A visible ally and authentic leader, she has embedded inclusion across policies, culture and strategy, creating opportunities for underrepresented communities and helping build a workplace where everyone can thrive.
